Dr. Yu is a novelist, teacher, scholar and translator. She earned her B.A. and M.A. in English at Southwest University, Chongqing, China. She then received a Ph.D in American Literature at Beijing Foreign Studies University. She came to the U.S. as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania. After working as an Assistant Professor at East China University of Science and Technology in Shanghai, Dr. Yu entered the Creative Writing Program at Columbia University and earned an M.F.A. in Fiction. She has years of experience in teaching language, literature, and culture in both Chinese and English to students of all ages. Before joining PRISMS, she taught most recently at Community College of Philadelphia and Chinatown Learning Center. Outside work, Dr. Yu enjoys reading, watching movies, gardening, and living in Philadelphia with her husband, a professor at Penn.
