Dr.
Steven Chen has been part of the PRISMS community since 2015, currently serving as the Deputy Principal. He earned
both his bachelor's and doctoral degrees in chemistry from Peking University. In his role, Dr. Chen oversees the
academic program, teaches Chemistry, coaches the Science Bowl team, and serves as a research mentor. As Deputy
Principal, Dr. Chen believes in fostering a rigorous yet supportive academic environment that encourages
curiosity, resilience, and a passion for discovery. Under his mentorship, many students have achieved top awards,
including two gold medals at the International Chemistry Olympiad.
Dr. Chen's research lab focuses on solving environmental challenges through chemistry and nanotechnology. His students frequently present their work at science fairs and academic conferences, earning widespread recognition for their innovative contributions. Beyond PRISMS, Dr. Chen is an active mentor and volunteer with the American Chemical Society (ACS), where he leads the “Annotated Exam Solution” project and supports teacher training initiatives. He is also a member of the ACS Division of Chemical Education (CHED).
