Located in Princeton, NJ, the Princeton International School of Mathematics and Science (PRISMS) is an
independent international coeducational 9th-12th grade boarding school focused on STEM education.
Job Description:

Princeton International School of Mathematics and Science (PRISMS) seeks to hire a
dedicated, thoughtful, imaginative, proactive, and compassionate full-time Residential Advisor to
begin on July 1, 2023. The position requires care for the School’s boarding population,
managing another residential advisor, and working on the Student Life team.
- Ettl House, the school’s residence, houses 80 boarding students. A residential advisor is one of
the two full-time adults who provides oversight, leadership, and guidance to all boarders.
Candidates should have excellent judgment when managing students and should, additionally,
have excellent communication skills, a vital aspect of the job. Candidates should be fluent in
English, and as many boarding students are from China, fluency in Mandarin is highly desirable.
- The Residential Advisor should be enthusiastic about working in a high school residential
environment, have excellent communication skills, act as a role model to students who are
trying to acquire good life habits, be independent, resourceful, and patient when dealing with
student issues, be responsive to text messages and emails, and have a keen awareness of the
students’ mental and physical health.

The Residential Advisor works closely with the Assistant Principal for Student Life, the Director
of Student Life, the School Nurse, and the other Residential Advisor, as well as with the faculty
and staff who support the residential life program during the evenings and on weekends. The
Residential Advisor is a position that requires regular correspondence with various
stakeholders, especially the parents of the boarding students, most of whom are international
students.
Job Duties:

Morning wake-up duty. 2-3 times during the weekdays. 7:30 am-8:10 am. Ensure all
students are up and out of the dorm by 8:00 am.

Evening dorm duty. 2-3 times during the weekdays. 4:00 pm-11:30 pm. Be around, send
lower classmen to study hall at 7 pm, work with the prefects to ensure everyone returns
to the dorm by 10:15 pm, and enforce lights out at 11:00 pm.

Weekend duty. One weekend day every week. Be around during the day (okay to leave
campus as long as the campus is covered by the on-duty residential faculty), and take
on evening duty from 4:00 pm to 12:00 am.

Holidays duty. Be on duty when the school is not in session, but the boarding students
are on campus. Supervise the dorm or transport students off-campus.

Room Inspection. Check the rooms’ cleanliness and tidiness once a week. Enforce the
consequences for the failed rooms.

Work under the guidance of the nurse to deliver medication to students.

Work with the prefects to conduct as-needed dorm meetings.

Other work needed to facilitate the dorm management or as assigned by the Assistant
Principal for Student Life or the Director of Student Life.
Job Requirement:

Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree (master's preferred) and at least some
related experience caring for teenagers in a residential program. Familiarity with independent
schools is ideal, and boarding school experience is preferred. Successful candidates will have
an exceptional ability to develop and maintain positive and healthy relationships with a diverse
range of adolescents from around the globe. Candidates should demonstrate an ongoing
commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive social, emotional, and intellectual experience
for the students. Housing and meals are provided for the Residential Advisor and their family
(should they have one) as they are expected to live with the boarding students and interact with
them continuously.
