Residential Advisor
Overview:
Located in Princeton, NJ, the Princeton International School of Mathematics and Science (PRISMS) is an
independent international coeducational 9th-12th grade boarding school focused on STEM education.

About the Role:
The Residential Advisor (RA) provides oversight, leadership, and guidance to students living in
Ettl House, PRISMS' co-ed residence, which houses approximately 60 boarding students. The
RA is one of two full-time staff members responsible for ensuring the well-being, safety, and
personal development of our boarding community.
Responsibilities:
- Student Supervision & Mentorship: Provide daily support, mentorship, and
oversight to students, fostering a positive and inclusive residential environment.
- Communication & Collaboration: Maintain strong communication with students,
parents (many of whom are international), faculty, and staff, particularly the Assistant
Principal, Director of Student Life, School Nurse, and fellow RA.
- Health & Well-being: Monitor students' physical and mental health, ensuring they
have access to appropriate resources and guidance.
- Community Engagement: Promote a culture of respect, accountability, and personal
growth by organizing residential activities and encouraging healthy habits.
- Responsiveness & Problem-Solving: Be readily available via text and email to
respond to student needs and emergencies.
- Multicultural Sensitivity: Given PRISMS' diverse international student body,
including a significant Chinese population, proficiency in both English and Chinese is
highly desirable.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required; experience in residential life or student support preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with a diverse
adolescent population.
- Experience in independent or boarding schools is ideal.
- Ability to act as a positive role model, demonstrating patience, independence, and
resourcefulness.
Additional Details:
- The Residential Advisor lives on campus and plays an active role in students' daily
lives.
- Housing and meals are provided for the RA and their family (if applicable).

Job Duties:
1. Weekday Duty (Three Weekdays per Week, 7:00 AM - 7:00 AM Next Day)
- Ensure all students are awake and out of the dorm by 8:00 AM.
- Locate students reported as missing from classes or activities.
- Be present after school and supervise evening study hall.
- Work with prefects to ensure all students return to the dorm by 10:15 PM and enforce
lights out at 11:00 PM.
2. Weekend Duty (Two Weekends per Month)
- Be available during the day (may leave campus if the on-call Residential Advisor
provides coverage).
- Supervise students and dorm life from 4:00 PM - 7:00 AM.
3. Holiday Duty
- Be on duty when school is not in session but boarding students remain on campus.
- Supervise the dorm and assist students with off-campus trips, such as downtown
visits or grocery shopping.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Room Inspections: Conduct weekly room checks for cleanliness and tidiness;
enforce consequences for violations.
- Medication Administration: Work under the guidance of the school nurse to
deliver medication to students as needed.
- Dorm Meetings: Collaborate with prefects to conduct dorm meetings when
necessary.
- Other Duties: Assist with dormitory management and fulfill additional
responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Principal for Student Life or the
Director of Student Life.
