Young Math Teams Excel at November Harvard-MIT Math Tournament

This past weekend, two math teams represented PRISMS at the November Harvard-MIT Math Tournament (HMMT). Both teams placed in the top ten in at least one team round, and the first team placed second overall. These results are all the more impressive given that the teams comprise mostly underclassmen and no current seniors. In the individual rounds, the teams were led by strong performances from Charlie G. '28, who won 8th place in the General Round, and Allan Z. '28, who earned 8th place in the Theme Round. Highlighting the students' teamwork and school pride, coach Joseph LI "was deeply moved by the students' passion for mathematics and their enthusiasm throughout the competition."

This year, HMMT drew over 1,000 students from more than 100 schools nationwide and internationally. The tournament aims to challenge high-school students with math problems beyond the scope of a standard math curriculum.
