Taven Chen ‘25 and Jenny Xu ‘25 Advance to the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF)

Several students from PRISMS showcased their research at the 2024 Mercer and North Jersey Science and Engineering Fair, garnering top awards, including three 1st place honors. Two exceptional students were selected to participate in the final stage, the International Science and Engineering Fair.

Taven Chen ‘25 distinguished himself by securing the only Grand Prize and 1st place in the Environmental Science and Engineering category at Mercer with his project, “3D Digital Holographic Microscopic Water Quality Detection System.” This achievement earned him a spot at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), set to take place in Los Angeles from May 11-17.

Jenny Xu '25 has also qualified to participate in the ISEF. Her research, inspired by the adaptive colors of chameleons and butterflies, explores the properties of liquid crystals and structural colors within physical chemistry. She is investigating their potential for broad industrial applications in the future.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Taven and Jenny for their impressive achievements and wish them the best as they prepare for the competition in Los Angeles.

In addition to these achievements, Spencer Wang ‘26 and David Hsu ‘27 each clinched 1st place in the Software and Embedded Systems category and Plant Science category at Mercer, respectively. Tony Zhao ’25 and Tom Geng ‘25 collaborated to secure 2nd place in the Computer Science category at North Jersey.

Congratulations to all the participants for their hard work and outstanding performances.
