On Wednesday, November 5, nearly half of all PRISMS students participated in the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) 10 A and 12 A. Every year, the AMC is a popular event at PRISMS, and on Wednesday, the campus was abuzz with speculation and last-minute preparation. Students took the opportunity in stride, eager to do well and excited to be a part of the global event.
PRISMS students embrace the spirit of the AMC and work together to support and challenge one another. After the exam, students flooded the cafeteria to discuss the problems and their solutions. There was laughter, lively debate, and more than one "aha" moment-great energy in a community of kids who love math.
The Mathematical Association of America established the AMC in 1950 to "bolster students' confidence and passion for math" by challenging them with engaging problems, "setting the stage for lifelong mathematical exploration, discovery, and achievement."
